Sterile & Non-Sterile

Compounding Pharmacy

Compounding allows a pharmacy to prepare a medication in a customized form or formulation when appropriate for an individual patient's needs and prescribed by a qualified healthcare provider.

How It Works

  1. Discuss your needs

Discuss your medication needs with your healthcare provider.

  2. Prescription sent to HRx

Your provider sends a valid patient-specific prescription to HRx Pharmacy.

  3. We prepare your medication

HRx Pharmacy prepares the medication according to the prescription and applicable pharmacy requirements.

When Compounding May Help

Your healthcare provider determines whether a compounded medication is appropriate for you. Common situations include:

Ingredient Sensitivities

When a commercially available medication contains an ingredient a patient needs to avoid, a prescriber may determine that a compounded formulation is appropriate.

Dosage-Form Needs

When a patient has difficulty with a commercially available dosage form, a provider may prescribe an alternative form prepared by a compounding pharmacy.

Customized Strengths

When a prescribed strength is not commercially available, a compounded medication may be prepared according to the patient-specific prescription.
